Parents worry. It seems to go with the child-rearing territory. How can we do it right? How can we avoid making mistakes? Of course, there’s no such thing as a “perfect” parent. Our children probably need us to be less than “perfect” in order to become strong and independent people. We only need to be good enough. However, here’s a useful hint. Avoid using the words “Don’t”, “Not” and “No”. Why? Because when you tell your child “Don’t slam the door” or “No fighting” think about what you are giving attention to in those examples – slamming the door and fighting. And, according to the Law of Attraction, when you give your attention to something, you will attract more of the same. So what you really want to do is to distract them from the behaviour which you consider to be negative and, instead, offer them positive alternatives such as “close the door gently” or “treat each other with respect”.
Some people are understandably sceptical when they hear the term “Law of Attraction”. When you suggest that people attract stuff into their lives as a result of the kinds of feelings they consistently experience, you frequently get a glib remark about New Age mumbo jumbo. But there really isn’t anything new about it and it certainly is not mumbo jumbo. It’s as old as the hills! And some of the wisest people have always been aware of the connection between our thoughts and feelings and the consequences of these.”
We attract into our lives whatever we give our energy, attention and focus to, whether negative or positive. That is the definition of the Law of Attraction. You know the experience of thinking about someone you haven’t seen for a long time and then suddenly you meet them again? We might say that it happened “out of the blue” or that it was a coincidence. I think we’ve all had those kinds of experiences. Well, another way to describe them is that these “coincidences” are the Law of Attraction at work.
Many years ago, when I was a student at university, I was attracted by a little book containing some of the sayings of Confucius. From all the many words of wisdom contained there, I only remember two of his sayings. Yet these have been very dear to me.
